We celebrated Ozzie's 1st birthday yesterday. I thought I would share a few choice photos. In the first, he discovers cake frosting. His love for that frosting ultimately resulted in the second photo.
We are packing up right now to go to the hospital for Ozzie's bronchioscopy, scheduled for tomorrow morning at 7:30. Oz, like many other babies with DS, had breathing/congestion issues. We're hoping the docs can identify and correct any places along his airway that may be blocked. He is also having tiny tubes placed in the tear ducts in his eyes so his tears can drain properly and we can quit having to scrape gunk off his lashes every time he wakes up from a nap. And he may be having tubes placed in his ears - his ear canals are so tiny no one has ever really been able to get a good look inside them. This is all fairly minor stuff - he just needs a tune-up. Wish us luck!

That first photo is the traditional "my child has discovered the wonders of sugar" photo. hehe
and that second photo is just precious!!!
I love your "tune up" remark!!! So appropriate! Joaquin is going in for his ear "tune up" tomorrow. He's getting his ear wax taken out- lots of gunk in his ears!!! You might ask about the adenoids. I wish I had asked about these when Joaquin's tubes were placed. Get everything done at once is my motto :)!!!
Love the sugar coma pic!
Hope Little Oz enjoyed his first birthday!! By the pics, it sure looks like it : )
Good luck with the "tune up". I hope everything goes well. Thinking of you guys...
Happy Birthday Oz!
We'll be praying for your tune up!
sending positive vibes your way...
He is simply gorgeous! Best wishes for an uneventful tune-up experience.
Such a beautiful, sweet little boy! Happy birthday, little man. I hope all went well at the hospital.
Happy, happy 1st Birthday Oz!!!
Happy birthday Oz from Jen and Sophie. My big girl, now 2 years old, has had all of the procedures you've listed and she's doing great. So here's wishing you luck.

Good luck with the ear tubes. My wife is still mortified from the experience. The docs had to put "Tiny Titans" in his ears, which are the smallest tubes on the market, made from titantium. Before they could insert them, they had to break open an adult kit and grab a pair of scissors to trim the hair in his ear canals.....Our doc said it was a first for him, and he wasn't sure how much of the hearing loss was due to the small size of the ear canals and how much was from Captain Hairball trapping wax in his ear hair....
Hey Daniel,
I am glad to hear your family is doing well! Of your 30 current post this is my favorite. I often say that, in teaching children with disabilities, they have taught me WAY more than I have taught them. Most people don't know what this means but you seem to have become very familiar with this phenomena!
Take care,
Audrey Niblock
happy bday!
he is beautiful!
